Young People- Use Of Film Homework.

As a class we answered a survey to give us an understanding of why and how many people use film. A question asked was ‘how many times have you been to the cinema this year?’  Three people said 0-5 times, 8 said they had been 6-10 times and 10 people said 10+. This shows the majority of young people like to go to the cinema. Another question asked was why they go to the cinema. Many people wanted to pick more than one option but we decided to stick to one. The results were 11 people go to the cinema with their friends and 10 people said because they like the film. This gives an impression of social interaction as people are going with their friends.

Out of 22 people who got surveyed, five people said they buy popcorn and drinks at the cinema. This shows people aren’t interested so much in the food. I also feel it is overpriced, which is why I do not buy food from the cinema. 22 people also said they are influenced by trailers. This shows young people are watching TV or on the internet if they watch trailers as they are the places they are broadcasted.

17 people are subscribed to Netflix, Lovefilm or anything similar. This shows people enjoy watching movies or TV in general. Out of all the people being surveyed all 22 people said they have not posted their own films on the internet. This shows they prefer watching than making films. 19 people have visited film websites. This shows they are interested in the films. For example I go on cineworld.com to see what films are out and what days/times I can go and watch them.

13 people have said they have download/streamed films illegally. This is because it is free to download or stream whereas buying or renting a film or even going to the cinema costs money. Baring in mind some young people are unemployed which means they don’t have the money to do this.

A friend of mine used a website called projectfreetv.com to watch films online. This gave them a range of films to choose from, it was quick, simple and free! Unfortunately, there are a lot of ads and pop ups throughout the process of the film loading and the website doesn’t always work. I never use film websites or stream films. I watch have Netflix which I pay monthly for. This is because I enjoy watching films or TV in my spare time. On Netflix, you have a range of films from family to documentaries. There are also TV programmes which start from season 1. I enjoy watching TV programmes because they interest me with their dramatic stories.
