Angus, thongs and perfect snogging is 2008 British 'coming-of-age' film staring Georgia Groome. The story involves a 14-year-old girl who keeps a diary about the ups and downs of her life of being a teenager. She also keeps a note on the things she learns about kissing. Georgia is the main character who falls in love with a boy names Robbie. Unfortunately, Robbie is Lindsay's boyfriend. Lindsay is Georgia's rival who is classed as an antagonist in the film. She is presented as pretty but a bully towards Georgia.
Georgia Nicolson.
Georgia is presented as a typical school girl. She cares about her appearance and what people think about her. She has a crush on a boy at her school which is stereotypical for a girl to have. Georgia embarrasses her self by trying fake tan but it makes her legs go orange. This shows she is trying to impress other people and try to 'fit in'. Georgia constantly asks for her party to be in a club in order for it to be good. She wanted this so she could gain more popularity however, her parents did not approve to this. This also shows how she wanted to be presented towards the people she knows by trying to impress them.
Robbie.
Robbie is presented as a popular and sporty teenage boy. It is stereotypical for young males to be interested and good at sport. He can also be a countertype as he works with his mum at a fruit and vegetable shop. Usually, boys will do more manly jobs as they are strong and more capable. For example, working with their father or doing something involving mechanics or sport.
Lindsay.
Lindsay is presented as a stereotypical popular female. She is pretty and well dressed with knowledge on hair and makeup. She is up her self as she knows she is better than her rival Georgia. This shows she cares about her appearance. Although her character is not shown a lot during the film, everybody around her understand where they stand with her. For example, she can get any guy she wants as she intimidates the fellow students.
The film was set in a variety of places such as a school, Georgia's bedroom and a swimming pool. This is Hampton pool. This scene involves Georgia Going swimming with her friend and Robbie is already in the pool. Georgia is embarrassed by her orange legs. Robbie and Georgia finally kiss, he then leaves as he has some things to do.
School uniform.
This image shows Georgia and her friends. They are wearing school uniform which connotes that the film is set in a school and they are also young teenagers. The school uniform is classic as they are wearing long skirts which show they are formal. They are also wearing blazers, shirts and ties. It is stereotypical for pupils to wear uniform in Britain as they are the rules for most schools.
The lighting in this film is a mixture of high and low key. This could show the ups and downs of a teenage life. In one scene, there was loads of shots related to mise-en-scene showing what the Georgia and her friends were wearing, especially close ups and long shots. Also there was quite a few point of view shots from Georgia's prospective when entering the room full of all her `friends`. Also there is a mid shot on Lindsay, when everyone laughs at Georgia's choice of costume. This represents Lindsay as the most dominant out of her and Georgia.
A song used in the film is 'She's So Lovely' by Scouting for Girls. This song is fast but has a bright tone. This tells the audience the film could be a romantic comedy.
This shot is in the film. This is a form of editing. The screen has been made into a diary which shows it is a film about a young teenage girl as it is stereotypical to write a diary. Also it has font saying "How to make an entrance". This is a 'guide' to the viewers and it also represents Georgia as a character.
Wild child is a film about a rebellious Malibu girl who gets
shipped off to a strict English boarding school. Wild Child is a 2008
British-French-American film. The genre is a teen romantic comedy-drama starring
Emma Roberts playing as Poppy Moore and Alex Pettyfer as Freddie Kingsley .
Poppy Moore.
Poppy Moore is presented as a devious and rebellious teenager. She goes against her fathers rules as well as the school rules at her new boarding school in England. Back in America, she was seen as popular and pretty with loads of friends. She can be seen as a stereotype. This is because she is into fashion, makeup and anything feminine. I can see this from a scene where Poppy and her friends go shopping to get ready for the school party. Her behaviour in school is how many young people can be viewed such as bad language and attitude.
After a while, Poppy settles in well. She makes new friends and enjoys her time. Her attitude becomes a positive thing. I can see this from the Scene where she is supportive in the school sports team she participates in.
Back in America, Poppy is presented as a spoilt teenager. She decides to do a prank with her friends. She throws and gives away her fathers girlfriends belongings. This shows she is un happy with her soon to be step mum which is also stereotypical of a how a teenager may feel.
Harriet Bentley:
Harriet is the head girl of the boarding school, Abbey Mount who is obsessed with rules. She is manipulative, evil and cruel among others. She wants to destroy Poppy, to the point of leaving her friendless, and frames her for a crime she did not commit. This crime was a fire Poppy accidently made but put out. Harriet then started the fire back up during the night. But at the end, Harriet pays for her actions by being expelled.
Poppy is dressed in brightly coloured fashionable clothes. This shows she likes fashion and cares about how she looks. She is wearing glasses and packs no warm clothes as she did not know England's harsh cold and wet weather. Poppy gets told she has to get changed into school uniform. Her response was not great as she likes to wear and personalise her own things!
This picture shows the school uniform each student has to wear. The uniform is smart due to them attending a boarding school. In England it is stereotypical for students to wear uniform as they are the rules. This uniform is posh. I can see this by the knee length skirts followed by long grey socks, blazers and ties. They are not wearing anything tight such as trousers which shows they could be higher class as they are more formal.
In scene one, there is an establishing shot. This shows us Poppy's room. It gives the audience the idea of a typical teenage girls bedroom. The shot zooms in to a close up shot. The shot shows Poppy sleeping. There is non-diegetic music of a calm piano then suddenly she wakes up and frowns. She says "sh*t" like something has gone wrong or is about to happen. The music changes to up beat rock, when Poppy gets out of bed and gets ready. This shows she is late for something which shows she is not very organised.
This is a long shot.
This shows the film is aimed at teenagers, mainly female due to the colours and font. The colours used are bright pink, yellow and blue. These can be suggested as feminine colours.
This shot is an over the shoulder shot. The calendar which could be classed as mise-en-scene, shows an important date on it. You can see this by the brightly coloured arrows pointing the date which is in the middle of the shot. This shows this date is important to Poppy due to the emphasis of the arrows. This shot also suggests it is Poppy's calendar and not her fathers or any other family member as they are similar colours to her bedroom also the cut outs and pictures around the calendar tells the audience it is a teenage character.
There is high key lighting in the beginning of the film. This is when she is outside with her friends. The sun is beaming down and there is a bright blue sky followed by the clear sea underneath. The high key lighting in this scene is used to show the characters are in a perfect place and also shows the characters are having fun outside.
There is low key lighting when Poppy is downstairs in the computer room emailing her friends back in America. This shows she has not turned the lights on as the pupils are not allowed to go out of their dorm after "lights out". This shows she is daring and goes against the rules. This could be classed as a stereotypical teenager as they do not care as much as older people do.

Mean Girls is a 2004 American teen comedy film directed by Mark Waters. A 16 year old girl name Cady Heron, was raised in Africa and was home-schooled. At 16, she moved to America and enters a public high school for the first time. She only lived her life for 15 years with her parents and the wilderness. She made 2 new friends called Damian and Janis. They were viewed as ‘not popular’. Later on, Cady met the ‘plastics’ these were the 3 ‘popular’ girls. They were presented as pretty and crude. These were called Regina, Gretchen and Karen. They instantly let Cady join their group which is an unusual thing for the plastics to do. Her other 2 friends told Cady to remain friends with the plastics so they can find out their darkest secrets. Unfortunately, Cady falls for Regina’s ex-boyfriend, Aaron. Regina then finds out and seeks revenge on Cady by taking Aaron back. Cady finds out which turns into a plan to destroy Regina.
As Cady spends so much time with the plastic, she then begins to become one. During the process of destroying Regina, the 3 plot out different things to try. For example Cady gave Regina a Bar stating it will help her stay slim when in fact it made her put weight on. They tried endless things. Regina responds by spreading the whole contents of the burn book. The teachers make the students feel guilty about being hurtful to other people. Regina also gets hit by a bus but people stated Cady pushed her in front of it. In the end, Cady tries to fix everything and apologizes and states everyone should be happy with who they are.
I find the film funny and relatable which is why it attracts me and many other young females. “One time she punched me in the face... it was awesome”. I found this quote funny because it is about the popular punching a regular student and she didn’t mind because it was Regina. It is unusual to find being punched ‘awesome’. “She thinks she doesgonna have a party and not invite me? Who does she think she is?” This can be relatable to many young people as there are parties and people who haven’t been invited would usually say something along the lines like that. This quote can be seen as how people speak about others behind there back which is can also be relatable to some people. Cady says “Regina seems…sweet!” Janis replies “Regina George is not sweet! She’s a scum-sucking road wh**e, she ruined my life!” The audience can find this funny as they can relate to speaking in that way.
I believe this film attracts a female audience due to all the conventions used such as setting. The majority of this film is set in a school which most of the audience can relate to the issues because they would still be in school. Fashion is also a feminine characteristic. Most girls love clothes and care about their appearence and this is shown throughout this film.
As a class we answered a survey to give us an understanding
of why and how many people use film. A question asked was ‘how many times have
you been to the cinema this year?’ Three
people said 0-5 times, 8 said they had been 6-10 times and 10 people said 10+.
This shows the majority of young people like to go to the cinema. Another
question asked was why they go to the cinema. Many people wanted to pick more
than one option but we decided to stick to one. The results were 11 people go
to the cinema with their friends and 10 people said because they like the film.
This gives an impression of social interaction as people are going with their
friends.
Out of 22 people who got surveyed, five people said they buy
popcorn and drinks at the cinema. This shows people aren’t interested so much
in the food. I also feel it is overpriced, which is why I do not buy food from
the cinema. 22 people also said they are influenced by trailers. This shows
young people are watching TV or on the internet if they watch trailers as they
are the places they are broadcasted.
17 people are subscribed to Netflix, Lovefilm or anything
similar. This shows people enjoy watching movies or TV in general. Out of all the
people being surveyed all 22 people said they have not posted their own films
on the internet. This shows they prefer watching than making films. 19 people
have visited film websites. This shows they are interested in the films. For
example I go on cineworld.com to see what films are out and what days/times I
can go and watch them.
13 people have said they have download/streamed films
illegally. This is because it is free to download or stream whereas buying or
renting a film or even going to the cinema costs money. Baring in mind some
young people are unemployed which means they don’t have the money to do this.
A friend of mine used a website called projectfreetv.com to
watch films online. This gave them a range of films to choose from, it was
quick, simple and free! Unfortunately, there are a lot of ads and pop ups
throughout the process of the film loading and the website doesn’t always work.
I never use film websites or stream films. I watch have Netflix which I pay
monthly for. This is because I enjoy watching films or TV in my spare time. On
Netflix, you have a range of films from family to documentaries. There are also
TV programmes which start from season 1. I enjoy watching TV programmes because
they interest me with their dramatic stories.
